I am writing to thank you for your referral to Mr. B which was very helpful in enabling me to make my decision to opt for bypass surgery as a better long term solution. As you know I was bitterly disappointed that the Angioplasty wasn't the success we had both hoped for but nevertheless my quality of life has improved significantly.

I am writing on behalf of our family, to thank you for the care you gave my father during his time under your care for ischaemic heart disease.
He passed away a few months ago secondary to lung cancer, but his life was inexplicably improved by your investigation, changes to medication (cessation of beta blocker and commencement of ivabradine) prior to these being in common use - and ultimately your counsel, reassurance and can do attitude.
He continued to work in the family business until around a year ago, and did not complain of claudication or angina despite these things limiting his quality of life significantly previously.
The most important thing I want to express is how much his consultations with you improved him psychologically. You did not make promises of eternal life but acknowledged that in the face of uncertainty life can be enjoyed and optimised -and helped him enjoy a much longer life than anyone of us expected.
As a fellow doctor, i too know the power we have in consultation is often greater than the medicines we give. Not everyone in private practice affords patients the gift of time as well as expertise so I wanted to make sure you knew the impact of your craft. He travelled from Glasgow to see you specifically and I hope this reflects the height of his, and our, respect.
